New windows does not detect sound card and modem

Hi,
I have just bought a Vaio (VGN-FS315B) , with originally installed winXPhome in french. when i tried to install xppro in english, the new windows did not detect the sound card or modem. the drivers provided with the recovery are not recognised by the hardware installation programe. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you make recovery discs? On one of the discs (the one with drivers on), you'll see there's a folder called Hotfix. Install KB835221. You'll then be able to install the sound and modem drivers in the normal way.
