networking

Connecting Vaio Laptop to Vaio desktop. Try as I might I cannot access any information from either machine. On the network connection I have 2 x 1394 netwrok adapters shown enabled, and an intel (R)PRO/100 VE network adapter shown enabled. Both computor have been co  nnected via a cross over ethernet cable, the sony link cable and a direct cable on the LP port. Although the desktop shows them connected I am unable to see any shared folders. On the laptop, my network only shows the laptop and not the desktop. I am at my wits end. How on earth do I share folders or files between the two. On my last windows 98 system I could simply view the host/guest but not now on the Windows XP.

Make sure you share a folder on the desktop, so that you can transfer data.

Make sure you have set your firewall(s) to see the other computer's IP address. In Norton, choose perosnal firewall thennetworks and ask it to look for your network IP addresses and place them in trusted sites. Seemed to do the trick for me.

Good luck!
