When bying my VAIO K415B in the specs was said the battery life is 105 min. I have never got more than 55 min. It's from the very beginning. What could be the reason?
And the fan is always running. I have another laptop-Toshiba.It stays on battery for almost 2.5 hours and the fan is working occasionally-just when too many programs are running.
well the manual time is just a rough aprox not the excact value and toshiba laptop have a better fan control software then sony ones. so the battery life all depends on wht setting u put it on and wht u are doing on it. for example wht setting is the LCD brightness and how much of the CPU and HDD u are using while on batt mode. but ur looks like it half of the stated rate tht does not seem to be right. hopefully another memember should able to help u out on this matter. but what do u do while on battery mode and plus put the energy mode to degrade see if tht helps.
The K415B uses a desktop processor instead of a mobile processor. In general, the fan will run constantly on these machines because of the extra heat output. and limited processor performance control.
When Sony (and most other manufacturers) determine the battery life they run the computer with the screen at level 5 (50%) brightness in Vaio optimised mode, they unplug every peripheral, turn off virus scanners, firewalls, other background applications, WLAN, etc. and fully defragment the disk drive. Then they basically only run non processor/hard disk intensive office applications.
Because of this, the published battery life rarely matches real use battery life.

i have a fs115b and the battery lasts for a few hours! but it is a pentuim M:smileygrin:
Thanks a lot. I am not a great specialist in computers and it seems that I was misled by the Sony dealer that I am getting something really great (I mean the K415B). So the fact that the processor is not mobile explains everything.
Hi,
When i was looking to buying a laptop realy did my home work first because i knew as soon as i went into a shop and told the sales person what i wanted he/she would try and fob me off with some carbage that realy they knew nothing about, after all all there interested in is your money and will tell you anything you want to hear.
And true to my thought they did just that in Office World, the sales guy came to me and said " hello sir can i help you" i told him i wand a laptop with deadicated graphics instead he try`d to palm me of with a lappy that had intergrated graphics.
So i fobbed him of and went else where.
Ive ended up with a FS115S and very pleased with the why it performs and get about 2 hours Max from the standard Batt, but looking for a longer life Batt so if any one knows how much pls let me know thanks..
the FS batterys are really expensive
Intergrated Graphic Cards aren't bad at all. These new Intel Chipsets make a good job and needing less energy than a NVIDEA or ATI (only bords with Intel 915 chips and higher)But you are right, the speed is not compareable with real VideoRam. And 2hours battery livetime isn't much today. One reason is the poor battery. You have to pay for a better one. 200-300€, correct me if I'm wrong.
EDIT: lol Kris was faster.
