My Vaio PCG-Z1XSP is about 18 months old and as of yesterday I'm getting green lines of pixels when I scroll. They only apprear in black areas for now, such as on text, and disappear a bit when I do a "select all" then deselect if you get what I mean.
Has anyone else had this problem, and is this a hardware failure? Do I need to replace my screen or has a chip come loose? It's really beginning to annoy me as it's getting worse VERY quickly! Yesterday it was just a few pixels (like 50 or so) and today it's closer to a couple of hundred!
HELP!!
Thanks.
Hello,
It seems like this is an issue related to your graphics card in the laptop. Some of these abnormalities are related to heat buildup inside the machine, I would first get a can of compressed air and spray this liberally inside the ventilation slots and fans to remove any trapped dust.
Be careful as you spray air into the unit, because it can break the fans inside your laptop (they over-rotate and snap).
If this problem does persist, it would be a case of trying out a new set of drivers, replacing the motherboard (as the graphics chip is non-removable), or replacing the screen - in that order.
Good luck!:smileygood_luck:
Are you using the jog dial or arrow keys? This could be a didgy inverter cable too
Thanks for the replies guys!
Ok, here's an update. Soon after making that first post the pixel problem has disappeared so I have a feeling it's the opposite to a heating problem. ie. The problem goes away when my Vaio heats up! I'll have to see if it reappears tomorrow morming when everything's cold again. Regarding dust, I don't think this is a problem with my Vaio as I use a can of compressed air on it every week. I'm very anal! 😛
FYI I'm using the jog dial not the arrow keys. Also I don't think it's a driver problem as it's been fine for 18 months.
Regarding the inverter cable, is that something I can fix myself?
Yes if:
a) you can get one
b) you know how to dismantal your VAIO
