Hi trebiv,

My suspicion is that you are experiencing a common problem that a number of members have reported, and that is the screen produces a high pitched noise when set to anything other than maximum brightness.

On battery power the screen will default to a lower brightness level than maximum, but running on mains power the level will be maximum brightness.

You could check out this theory by using power management to set the screen to maximum brightness (or just use the FN + F5 keys) while running on batteries.

If my theory is correct I suggest you contact Sony support for an explanation/solution.

I have escalated this problem to Vaio-Link as I have seen at least four posts on the subject from new C-Series users.

Hi guys,

did you find out anything more? I have the same noise, the strange thing is that it disapears when I connect usb memory (note, a normal mouse will not have any effect on this). I would be a pity to always have to carry around a usb memory just to stop that noise...

thanks

Your problem seems to be the CPU going to a lower state to preserve battery. By connecting a USB device, you force the CPU to a higher state. Many processors, that can scale down their total speed according to the demands of the software being run, have noise problems. Some other people are running a tool that keeps the processor from scaling down, though if u go mobile it will consume more battery than usual.

I just bought my vaio (FE31M), and I experience this kind of noise, but from the GPU! The problem is that it gets louder as I put load on it, and it is audible even when resizing windows or clicking on pull down menus 😞 let alone gaming and serious image/object manipulation software that produce this noise in a very annoying volume.

I hope I helped.
