HID connection failure with Bluetooth mouse

Good day all

VGN FE21s running Win XP home, 2GB ram

Many thanks for previous assistance with shutdown. Now I have a problem with a Targus Bluetooth mouse.

I have reloaded the latest drivers (Toshiba Stack Ver 4.00.31(SO))

When I click New Connection (Bluetooth) and put the mouse in discovery mode, the mouse is "found" almost immediately and the correct name displayed. Then click NEXT and a “now connecting” window is displayed.

The original “New connection” window continues to be displayed underneath.

But then the system opens a new "New Connection" window on top which says that it is “Registering the HID device to this system”. (Top of the window says “Please wait while the wizard registers the settings information”). The computer then “hangs” and nothing happens. The ‘Cancel’ button will not work and neither of the two windows can be closed (Other programmes seem to work as normal)

Also the computer CANNOT be Restarted or Turned Off (The Bluetooth Manager closes from the task bar but then the PC hangs, and can only be switched off with the power button.

Bluetooth manager says that the mouse is connected OK and all tests pass, but the mouse will NOT operate.

I have another PC with XP Home and the mouse connects OK and works well.

I would be very gratefull for any assistance.

Many thanks in advance.
Tim
