getting 1920 x 1200 resolution to work on moitor plugged into my laptop???

Hello,

I hav a sony vaio laptop (VGN-T2XP/L) running windows XP and have bought a new 24" monitor with a maximum resolution off 1920 by 1200. The maximum resolution that I can actually get is 1600 x 1200.

How do I get the bigger resolution???
