My laptop has two model numbers on its base. Use the one on the white stuck on label (SVE1711X1EB ) rather than the one printed on the base (SVE171A11M)
My laptop is only let down by the slow speed of the supplied drive, which is a WDC WD7500BPVT-55HXZT3.
Is it possible to add an additional drive inside the machine, or as an alternative, replace the supplied drive with a solid state drive, so that the machine can run at its best capabilities?

Confusing model numbers with two on the base of the same machine
Yes, it is very easy to replace the supplied HDD with an SSD. Buy an SSD (e.g. Samsung 830 series), attach it via a usb cable to the PC, clone the HDD to the SSD, then remove the internal HDD and replace it with the SSD. That's it.
It is also possible to add a second hdd to the laptop, but at the cost of replacing the blueray drive with a optical drive hdd caddy, and requires fully opening up the laptop.
