Fan Doesn't seem to be working?

errr....the fan went weird on my VGN-A217M this morning, the notebook is still under warranty, what do I have to do to see if the fan is still functional and that the computer isn't over heating, without opening it up?

Is there some kind of diagnostics page on Windows XP which tells the temperature when the fan comes on etc?

Help is kindly appreciated!

Well, Sony are in fact great to deal with, had my notebook fixed, sent to and from the location of repair within a one week timeframe. I'm impressed!

But the Sony Helpline service is lagging in quality needed to keep customer's satisfied, I ended up in the end opening one of the "cases" on another Sony website, took a week for someone to reply and eventually sorted out the problems. Now I'm a happy camper.

LMAO @ Tony.

Yup Sony repairs are feckin A.

Few months ago I noticed a fan problem myself. ie the fan wasn't turning. Laptop got very very hot. Easy to fix tho; a torch confirmed that a giant blob of dust was stopping the blades from turning. Quick wiggle with a paperclip and then the next time I turned on the Vaio the fan burst into life, spewing very fine dust into my eyes. All was fine 😉

Oh yeah my laptop is an A217M too. The fan is easy to see on the underneath
