Could anyone explain the difference between a DVD-R and a DVD+R disc and is it possible to use either with a PCV-RZ422P? Thanks in advance.
Keelo,
thanks for the link, but I have another question maybe you know about...
Do you know of an easy way to tell which format your drive supports? It is not physically written on my drive, and it is not written anywhere in the "Device Manager" properties for the drive. I know from reading a sign at the store that the drive should be "-R, -RW" but I swore that I saw "DVD RAM" written somewhere....
1. What the heck is DVD RAM, and what can I do with it??
2. Is it possible my M-a-t-s-h-i-t-a drive would be both, (-R/-RW and RAM) or am I on CraCk?
p.s. please to not answer the crack question.
Thanks for any help

I've just purchased a PCV RZ424. The rewritable drive won't recognise a DVD+RW blank disk, but it does recognise a prerecorded DVD film. I'm really struggling, it just keeps asking me to load a blank disk even when there is one in it...I'm stuck short of going and buying a load of different DVD media I don't know what to do. I have tried two diff makes of DVD+RW in case that was a suggestion.
Regards
Darren
And to think I was going to buy one of those new ones.... maybe not.
Hi, just bought a RZ424 myself from a Sony Centre. I asked this very question in the shop and a chappie gave me the follwing info:
Go for DVD-R (ie. -, not +, and R, not RW), 4 X Speed. On my bit of paper in then says "Ritek dye" which I believe is the film covering the disc, he reckoned the actual disc manufacturer was not important. He also said an internet search of "Ritek" should bring up loads of results.
Can't comment I'm afraid cos not got round to playing with DVD's yet, but let me know how it goes.
Best regards.
I can recommend Ritek white top DVD-R, never had a failure yet (touch wood)
I have a Hitachi 5.2 Giga RAM drive
on anothercomputer
This works so fantastic without any error since 5 years now
that I bought an SCSI card + cable on all 4 other computers
Have the cable + power on the outside
to change rapidly
Fantastic
That is real computer stuff.
Of course I should buy a PCAI » SCSI module for W1
but I stopped to make expenses for that thing
Works well as a kitchen TV !
Any Sony Guy on the forum to react ? (I make this my signature file )
