I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR38S. My tech guy changed it from the horrible Windows Vista to Windows XP and it worked very well. (He changed the drivers so that everything worked on XP.)
Now the DVD has stopped working. It still clicks and whirrrr's when you stick in a DVD butit doesn't read anything. When I right click on the DVD icon in My Computer it reads as if nothing is there. It used to work and I haven't updated or changed the drivers at all. I have tried inserting DVD's that previously worked. But no joy.
I have also tried updating the drivers but it returns the message that there are no advances on the current driver.
Any ideas????
Steve
Are there any yellow warning ! marks against the drive in Device Manager? If so, double click on the drive and give us the Error Code.
Hullo Blencogo,
Thanks for your interest.
I went to Devices Manager. There are no yellow warning ! marks to be seen and no error codes.

Hi Steve,
Have you tried a bootable DVD?
You can try cleaning the laser lenses with a liquid cleaner - but it sounds like you may need a new drive.
