I have recently purchased a VAIO VGN-FZ21Z and have noticed a problem with it.
According to the specifications published on the sony website, the optical drive is supposed to have a read speed for DVD-roms of X8 and read speed for CD-roms of X24. Unfortunately when I test the drive speed with the Nero utility "CDspeed" latest version (4.7.7.15), the drive doesn not attain these speeds.
I get an average speed with a DVD rom reads of x5.5 and Max speed of x6.9.
I get an average CD rom read speed of about x10 and a max read speed of x18.
I have checked that DMA is enabled for the IDE channel in device manager and it is. In fact, if I temporarily disable DMA, and perform the tests with DMA off, the drive performance is very much worse.
The Drive is a combo Blu-Ray drive, MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ-220S 1.01 ( I guess 1.01 is the firmware version).
Can anyone please help me??
