cd hardware or software problem?

I am experiencing a problem with cd writing - specifically audio recording on my RZ104. When i record the first track is always unplayable (just spins around and needs to be manually ff to next track.

Under errors i see the message "the device,\Device\cdrom, has a bad block"

what or how can i combat a bad block? i have tried reinstalling the driver but nothing changes.

any suggestions gratefully received.

To burn CD Audio, I wouldn't go over 4x, because the quality gets lower.
