Can't restore from Laptop recovery disks :( (vgn-tx5vn)

I dual booted my VGN-TX5VN with XP initially, (Running Vista and XP) but have removed the XP OS. The laptop is running ok with Vista, but I'm trying to restore just to clean up (and hopefully speed up).

Unfortunately though, after restarting with the system recovery disk I get the following error:

Windows failed to start... blah...
File \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0x0000001
Info: Selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.>

I've tried two different dvd's - get the same error for both.

Any ideas please???

PS: why can't I log a call with sony?!? I tried online, but its frustrating as hell and I got nowhere.

Hi ZuluURL and welcome.

Have you tried: -

Make sure you uninstall any Virtual Drive software (like Daemon Tools) and Norton GoBack - these interfere with the EISA Partition.

Resetting the BIOS default values -

1. Turn on your VAIO.
2. When you see the Sony logo, press F2 several times.
3. You will get the PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility window.
4. Press F9 to get default values and then press ENTER to confirm.
5. Press F10 to save changes and exit and then press ENTER to confirm.
6. You have restored the default values and your VAIO will now restart.

Running the Recovery Centre from your hard drive: -

1. Turn on your VAIO.
2. When you see the Sony logo, press F10 several times.
3. This should start the Recovery from your HDD

Unfortunately, if your Recovery Media has become corrupt and you have formatted the entire drive (removing the Recovery Partition), you will have to buy Recovery Media from Sony.

 Thanks a million,
the "F10" solution worked for me.

Thank you very very much.
