Hi peeps,
I have the VGN-AR21S laptop, with blu-ray drive, which is good....I do not have a brain, which is NOT good
I have had the machine for some months now, and have only just tried to play a blu-ray movie.
I place the disc in the tray and push it home, all sorts of whirring noises occur but nothing pops up, as it used to in my previous laptop...no instructions, or media player window...nothing!!.
I tried clicking on `WinDVD BD for Vaio' in `all programs'-that made the damned machine seize up, had to close down!!!
I tried switching `Media Centre' on, and clicking `play DVD'-that refused to recognise the disc, freaked the machine right out...screen went blank, had to close down again!!
Please clever people-how do I play my movies???
As a secondary prob, my machine is damned slow-when it first starts up, the icons on the worktop take several seconds to "fill in" for starters.
I have AOL, Internet explorer & Firefox for browsers, and frequently one, sometimes all of them will not open up properly.
I get a pop-up saying "unable to open page" etc
When trying to open AOL, I frequently get "error loading NVCPL.DLL the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
As you can no doubt tell, I am a total numpty on a PC....I should have known when programming my VCR defeated me 20 years ago that technology was not my forte, but sadly I have not learned, so here we are, in DEEP do-da.......HEEEEEELP
Cheers, Dave.
Hi Dave,
Your WinDVD BD program is probably out of date and needs updating.
Go To Sony Vaio-Link Downloads for AR21S and click on WinDVD and download Version 7.5.43.272. Follow the installation instructions.
For the slow startup, download the free for 30 days version of Tune-Up Utilities 2007 and run the Cleaners/Optimisers to give your system a spring clean.
Good Luck.
Hi Blencogo,
Thanks for the advice mate, I will try it now.
cheers, Dave
Hi again Blencogo,
Back again mate-sorry.
I downloaded the items you suggested, and the Tune-up Utilities thingy was magic...clicked on every facillity on it, and it found hundreds of faults AND sorted them-great stuff, many thanks.
Sadly, the Win DVD upgrade was not a great success. I have to say that most if not all of this will be because of my brain-dead status....(I think)... so I had better explain what I try, and what the results are.
When I installed the upgrade, it ended up by informing me that it had been successful...so far, so good. However, when I place a BD disc into the tray, absolutely nothing happens (on my old HP laptop, a window would have appeared, with instructions, and away you went-simple)
Assuming that the Vaio is obviously different, and that I must have to initialise something, I try clicking on `start', and sure enough there is the Win DVD BD facility listed....so, I click on it, and then the poo REALLY hits the fan...the Win DVD player window opens O.K, but everything is now frozen-my mouse no longer works, nothing!!
Because nothing now works (my cursor is now an `egg timer' which does NOT change, no matter how long I wait), I am eventually reduced to turning off by holding down the power button (not good), and then starting up again. It does not matter how many times you try this-with the disc in the tray before OR after starting the sequence, the result is the same.
I then find that if I click on the newly installed `Tune-up facility' short-cut on my screen, and run a scan, it finds just as many probs as there were before, and has to fix things all over again...beats the hell out of me (then again, most things do )
Where on earth do I go from here?????
Looks like your VAIO is unable to read your bluray disk...
It can be due to many things. Here is a small list :
- There is an update for the matsushita CD drive on Sony's site (in XP section for AR21s). Did you install it ?
- Maybe your bluray disk is dirty (try to clean it if it is the case)
- The lens of the CD drive can be dirty also. Try to clean it if it is the case
- your drive is broken (then you will have to contact Sony's support to have it repaired)
Unfortunately their can be other reasons why your bluray disk does not play but I hope that one of these tips will fix your problem.
