after changing harddrive disk, the utility cd does not work runtime error

Hello,

I have a big Problem after changing my defekt harddrive disk.
I don't know why.. it is gone to hell  .
My frind is also no good computer freak.
He gave me this job to solve his problem.

With the new harddrive disk:
After installing XP, the utility-cd outputed the error message: runtime error xx.
This error happens when i try to start the touch-pad (mous) utility from cd.

My question ist now, why the utility-cd ist not working after changing the harddrive disk

I hope i have explain relevant.
I do this job for my frind, because he think i can better english.

ciao

Have a nice day

Hi rene Thomas,

Download and install the pre-installed utilities and drivers for your Vaio model from Vaio-Link.

You first need to install Sony Utilities (Installer Folder 1) and then Sony Shared Library (Installer Folder 2) before attempting to install other utilities or drivers – assuming that the downloaded folder contains separate folders.

If you find that the download contains a single .exe file then run this prior to installing any drivers.

Hi rich912
thanks for your fast replay

Do you think that this porblem has nothing to do with the changing of the harddrive. In the Computer shop, the seller said that this error-message happens when the serial number of the harddrive has changed.
What do you think of this statement.
I can't belive that this statement is true. Is It?

I don't know what i have to do, i am thery confused.
I try to do your solvings.

Another question by the way.
Can the touchpad (mous) be a reason why the laptop freez sometime?

Have a nice day.....

Hi rene Thomas,

Do you think that this porblem has nothing to do with the changing of the harddrive

No I doubt it. The problems that you are experiencing are probably due to the fact that the essential utilities are not yet installed. The Sony Utilities rely on recognition of the serial number of your Vaio, which is stored in the BIOS, not the hard drive.

One thing you could try, however, is restoring your BIOS to factory defaults and then use the recovery disks if you have them (press F2 repeatedly at startup, when you see the Vaio logo, to enter the BIOS settings)
Can the touchpad (mous) be a reason why the laptop freez sometime?

This can happen for a number of reasons, but until you have all Sony utilities re-installed it is difficult to narrow down the problem.

If you let us know your Vaio model we will be able to give more detailed instructions on using the recovery disks with the new hard drive.

Hi Rich912,

The model nummer is

PCG-GRT816M

I have seen only one CD by my frind.
On this CD (autostart) apper a menu with some options of utility.
When i click on one of it came the message runtime error.
I think the problem is that.... i can not install one of this utilitys because the error message-box apper.

I try your 'Options' abov the first time next week.
My frind is at the moment on holiday.
But together we will bring this mashine in excellent 'Mode'.
My words are to 'low' to say how happy i've been for this support here.
With my 500 words in english is it difficult to explain technical ......

Thanks a lot
As soon

Hi Hi rene Thomas,

The pre-installed utilities download for the GRT816M contains a single file, Utils.exe. Running this should install all the utilities necessary for you to then install any required drivers either from the CD that you have or the pre-installed driver download from Vaio-Link .

I have a feeling that the recovery media for this model should consist of more than one disk, but here is a link to the recovery procedure.
