I have both a 40EX703 & 46EX723 attached to the same external aerial via a simple passive splitter.
Being in the London area we only have a 'temporary' DVB-T2 HD signal at present. This shows on the signal strength meter which is at about 70%, compared to 90% on the standard DVB channels, and 70% vs 100% on Quality. Also the BER is higher at about 1E-2. At switchover next April the DVB-T2 signal is due to go up about 13dB.
So not ideal just yet, but it doesn't really explain the difference in performance between the two sets.
I have no problems whatsoever with the older 40EX703 - solid DVB-T2 reception with no drop outs.
However, the newer 46EX723 suffers instances where the signal quality drops from 70 to 5 or 6% for 15-20 seconds or so for no apparent reason, which of course blanks the reception out. This happens more frequently soon after switching to DVB-T2 for the first time after switching out of standby. After this it recovers and is usually OK.
I have noticed that C/N ratio on the EX723 is reported as only 20dB versus 40dB on the EX703. As I said these sets are on exactly the same aerial with a mast located splitter. Probably only about 8m of difference in downlead between the two.
Are these sets known to have differently performing receivers? Has anyone else experienced temporary catastrophic signal quality drops whilst watching DVB-T2 transmissions on an EX723?
