Sony 46HX923 Replacement Model/Update

Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I would just like an official update from Sony UK please as to what is actually happening with regards to this model.

Today at CES2012 a replacment HX853 model has been announced with edge lit LED Backlight, but no news with regards to a replacment 923 model.

I have been considering getting this model, however I seem to read on various forums that this model has so many issues that it's pot luck as to whether or not you get a good one, which is really putting me off buying it.

With Sony's TV Business losing so much revenue, isn't it time that Sony listened to it's customers and resoved the issues on this set. If the issues cannot be reseolved, then shoudn't the set be withdrawn?

Here are my questions :-

1. Rumour is that this set has been recalled for a 2nd time due to the crease issue. Is that correct ? Has the crease issue been resolved on later builds, or will it be ?

2. Inconsistent Backlight Issues - Many owners of this tv have reported backlight issues/bleed issues. Is Sony looking into this ?

3. Will this model continue into 2012, or is it being withdrawn due to the new models being announced/issues.

I hope that this model is not being withdrawn tbh. It is the only Sony model that features a Full LED Backlight Array. If Sony could sort out the issues with the crease/backlight uniformity, then many more peole like me will consider purchasing this set.

I await a response from Sony UK.

Thanks

This TV has backlight inconsistencies whether calibrated or not. It suffers from X-talk, haloing, DSE. All of this should not be present in Sony’s Flagship TV. However most of these problems can be reduced not eliminated, to more or less acceptable levels by reducing or turning off all the extras that supposedly makes this TV better. But my TV in particular has a darker line in the centre of the screen which initially I thought that might have been the Skype camera creating some sort of electromagnetic field but when the camera is moved the problems remains in the same place. In addition it has a couple a white lines creating a whiter band at 29 inches from the edge which is close to the centre as well.

Call me old fashion but when I buy a TV I do not care a lot about audio or any other fancy feature. The main reason I would buy a flagship TV is picture quality and this is where this TV fails. I love technology and all extra features are  welcome but the primary reason for the TV still would be picture quality.

Sony support is really disappointing to put it really mildly. It is said that you get what you paid for but with Sony whatever you pay expect to get a rubbish service. I know that most manufacturers have problems but that does not justify what Sony is doing. I thought they were meant to out-compete the rest no get as bad or worse as the rest. Buying this TV is a matter of luck and it should not be. If one gets a faulty one then god’s help will be need it.
