I bought KDL 40w4500 2,5 years ago. The reason why i chose that TV was that a) i am a fan of sony and b) promising quality. I bought that TV almost 1200 euros.
All seemed to be working fine since the last 10 days.. ''double'' images etc that many people have mentioned in the forum.
I went to an authorised service and they offered me to replace it with no additional cost. The model that they suggested is KDL 40EX500. Leaving the shop, i thought: 'That's a good aftersales behaviour''.
Reaching home, i searched over the net for more details about the EX500... to my disappointment i saw that they were offering me an old (it is withdraw from the market) and lower quality model compared to the old W series..
I called the customer support and they told me that: ''That's it'' ! I explained that it should replaced with at least the EX700 serie and I am willing to pay the difference. To my great surprise, the models EX510, EX700, EX710 they are not in stock, and when I asked the new EX720 i was told that you Sony doesn't accept me paying the difference and getting a new model. ''EX500 is quite good and that's what you will get''.
From my point of view that is not a proper attitute to a customer. Although Sony has admitted the problem ( http://http://www.sony-europe.com/discussions/message/659127#659127) they offer a cheap solution. Also today I learned, by Sony itself, that the Hz and the number of colour are not so important in a TV!
Great thanks!
