kdl-40ex524 DVB-T as recorder

I was at the store in Finland intension to buy kdl-40ex524. My only reason not to buy it was that they told me at the store that recording feature to USB hardrive can only be done to same channel as you are currently watching.

Is this true and can it be fixed by updating the firmware?

second question: For recording does the tv monitor have to be on or has it separate power to recording electronics.

I emailed my question directly to Sony and they responded.

OPTION A

feature to USB hardrive can only be done to same channel as you are

This is correct but you can use your AV channels. Nor upgrade possible.

second question: For recording does the tv monitor have to be on or has
it separate power to recording electronics.

If you have placed timer recording tv will not turn on, you just need to
remember to switch tv off from the remote then the tv will go to standby
mode and it will turn on HDD.

If recording limitation can't be fixed I would still be interested in
Sony TV, but in more basic version.
I would not need the Internet video or Media player capabilities or the
capability of recording to enable lower price range models.

OPTION B
My criterias would then be:
1. Wery good quolity picture
2. Low power consumption could be a nice feature if it does not step up
the price a lot.

EX524 is very good tv and we don't have other model and all of them will
have Internet video features.

OR
OPTION C
1. Wery good quolity picture
2. Low power consumption could be a nice feature if it does not step up
the price a lot.
3. Support for optional 3D plugin
- if 3D option reqirement would step up the price a lot then option B
would be better alternative.

EX723 series has 3D you just need to buy 3D glasses.
