KDL-32EX703 not connecting wirelessly

I've just bought a new KDL-32EX703 Bravia with a wireless dongle and it will not connect to our home network. On setup the wireless device gets a tick but the local access and internet both fail. I have reset the tv and the router, no change. I have a Sky supplied Netgear router and am going a bit bonkers as to why it won't connect. I'm using the auto detect settings options. Should I be using manual? At present it it a wholly useless TV, the manual is no help at all. It works when it is plugged into the router, but this is completely impractical as the router is a flight of stairs away... hence the purchase of a wireless internet TV.

Can anyone help? Please...

             I dont know how far you have checked on the Sony site, but just in case have you checked this link.

If the probem persists, maybe the security settings on the router.
