I've heard that some HD freeview tuners have an HD-SD link facility - if you are watching a programme in standard definition which is also available on a high definition channel then it will automatically switch channels to display the programme in HD.
This sounds like a good idea. Is this facility available on the CX523 ?
I haven't noticed it switching automatically, and I can't find any settings in the menu that sound like it.
Hi,
i have no idea about the "link" facility, never heard of it!, if you have a freeview HD tuner in your tv (which you have), once tuned in you will find all SD channels stored in the normal way with the addition of HD channels stored from number 50 to 54 in your channel guide.
in other words you can watch BBC 1 on channel 1 in SD or you can watch it in HD on channel 50
hope that helps.
Thanks. I have all that set up.
Apparently there is a signal sent by the broadcaster which can trigger compatible digiboxes/receivers to switch channels automatically (or display a message offering to switch channels) between SD and HD if the programme is available in HD. But it depends on the broadcaster bothering to set the flag.
For example see this thread on DigitalSpy forums:
