Digital Auto Tuning gets all the wrong channels from cable TV, on model KDL32CX523

Dear All.

Our builtin TV-guide _persist to include_ 750 channels, while only 30 of them are not locked by encryption.

We select digital auto tuning for cable TV, then we select correct cell (YouSee, Denmark, my area 00151) and click scan free channels only. The result is every time 750 channels in the TV-guide where 95% of the channels are not free. It takes some time to delete 700+ channels, I feel that the product is unfortunately broken.

Even more strange, if we scan for terrestial antenna digital signal using a simple small antenna, then this scan will also include all the coded/locked channels, unless we before that select, in that situation completely unrelated, the free channels on a "cable TV scan"!

Conclusion, free channels auto scan works terrestial if we select in on cable-TV scan in advance, but if we use cable-TV then we are in trouble. Don't Sony test their progamming anymore, was this software really made in Japan? The zap-button is useless when most of the stations are not viewable, and the TV-guide is also almost useless this way. The wife do not understand why I picked a Sony, but I have been prefering Sony in many appliances for around 25 years. I refuse to change a solid brand because of just one major glitch, but perhaps I cannot explain to wife why it is now nescesarry to push three times as many buttons just to pick one of ours always free tv-channels.

Please anyone, if You know a way to fix the broken free channel scan, possible many people could be happy for this relatively low priced TV. My problem is, should I return our TV to the dealer or should I hope for a firmware-update soon from Sony?

Hello Asger,

I am not familiar with Denmark Channels broadcasting but I have small background about the theory.

TV scan results filtered by TV TUNER depends on:

1- The Channel station send small byte of data with the signal, which tell the TV tuner if it is a free channel or scrambled one ( may be this data is missing depends on the broadcasting in your area)

2- The tuner electronic components which read the channel information are faulty ( need to be checked by Sony service center)

I am not sure if there was any firmware released to fix that problem ( i don't think so).

To isolate which of the above is the problem cause, you may call the showroom and ask them about other units behaviour when they preset at the display
