50WF665 - video material reproduction from NAS device

Four days ago, I bought this TV.  Main reason for buying Sony was extended warranty.

Issue is:
Reproducing video files from NAS is not possible with subtitles. Tried different formats, like *.mkv, *.mp4, *.avi, subtitle filename is same as it is filename of video file - but it wont work. TV does not "see" subtitle file.  When I press button on remote controller for subtitles - TV is showing message that "subtitles not available". If I try same movie, same files over USB - it works perfect.

So, my question is: Can this be done? Is there any patch/fix for this issue? My old TV (not Sony, from 2014) can reproduce subtitles from NAS device. Is it real that this is not possible with Sony?

P.S. just please, dont suggest me to buy android box...

  why not  just instal the kodi app and use that to  view  your  nas content?  if you have or usea  usb keyboard you can then  just press the l key to toggles through all the subtitle languages or  tur them off way more flexible than the built in  player

To install kodi on TV? 

Never tried kodi, but...why the hell not. If it is working, then - I dont see it as a problem, since it is just additional software installed on TV.

Still, little bit disappointed if it cant work with factory software, since older  devices (TVs) could do it....

 it will definitely work I  installed it to test and view some hdr sample  videos which I had  stored on  my nas and it played those files without  an issue.

Unfortunately, in this case I need to have ANDROID BOX anyway, since I cannot install Kodi on TV without android box 😞

Cable operator will provide me one with next contract extension (which will happen in July), so I will have to wait few months and to use USB connection for watching movies on my TV.

Anyhow....if someone discover something, please let me know.


P.S. I got suggestion from one local forum to use some software which will add subtitle to the video file. It is simple and it fast (depends on size of a video file, but approximately 60secs). It is MKVToolnix application.

Hi Vlayko,

I also think that editing the subtitles into the video file itself would be the easiest thing to do. But you can also make sure you have the latest software installed on your TV and maybe try putting the subtitle file and the video in a separate folder with nothing else inside and then try playing the video that way?
