46NX713 Lipsync Issue

Right, I have, as the title says, a 46NX713. It is connected to an Onkyo HTX-22HDX.

I'm using a 3.1 set up and sonically i'm very happy with it . . . but

Lipsync issues. With Sky SD and HD, Blu Ray, WDTV, anything really. Everything is connected with QED 1.4 HDMI. The other problem is, the sync issue is not constant so it's no good me setting a delay on any of my kit. As a test, I rigged the same kit up to a Panasonic Plasma and everything was fine, audio was perfectly in sync. Tried my kit then on a Toshiba and also no probs. I have tried turning off all digital processing etc, upgraded the firmware and still no joy. If I turn off the AV system and use the rather poor internal speakers the audio is in sync but kinda rubbish. I see people have similar problems with various Sony TV's. Should I regret my purchase? Has anyone else experienced this with this model?

I emailed Onkyo who suggested testing it on another set and I did and their kit was fine.

Any help, suggestions etc appreciated

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,

Don't have any answers I am afraid, but I am in the same position as you.  I bought a Sony Bravia 46NX703 TV and a Sony BDV-E370 blu ray / home theatre system in December.  We have the exact same problem of sound synchronisation and its driving me mad.  It varies significantly, but occurs on SKY channels (problem made worse by connecting the optical cable from the SKY HD box back to the blu ray player) but it also happens (sometimes quite badly) on DVD's too.  I am watching a Knight's Tale on DVD right now with my son and the lip sync is so bad its almost unwatchable.

Having checked around the internet today there appear to be other people with similar problems, but no answers from Sony.  Unlike your case, my situation is pure, up to date all-Sony kit from start to finish, so the problem is clearly with Sony not your Onkyo.  This may be some small comfort.  Give it a week to see if Sony reply and then maybe post at BBC Watchdog?  I am sure this would be right up their street!

I have a similar problem. i have a sony Blue Ray DVD (BD), a sony home cinema DVD (HC) and 1 year old sony TV.

The BD works fine through the TV but the home cinema does not, the lipsync is awful and makes watching films unviewable. also if I play the radio through the HC DVD there is a massive echo from the TV and DVD sound.

The end of the day as the lipsync makes watching movies through the HC DVD and TV unwatchable the products are not fit for purpose under the trade descriptions act (1968).

I am going to visit Sony Shop next week (just had a sony engineer out who confirmed it can not be fixed) and then probably have to log a complaint. Legal action will be a last resort but these products are not cheap, you buy sony because you want quality and the least you expect is that everything works!

I had lipsync issues with the sound system delivering sound from the TV, freesat and DVD - all connected to the receiver using HDMI cables. Instructions on the TV said to set up Bravia sync which I did but no success.

The trick was to realise that the AV amp (Sony STR DH820) has a settings menu for AV delay and that was set of OFF. I changed the setting to ON and now all is well. It can also allow manual settings to be used (in 10 msec increments) - useful if the auto-sync is still wrong.

Hope this helps.
