Sony BDP-S380 & BBC iPlayer

I recently purchased this item and did a network update to ensure I had the lastest firmware, however BBC iPlayer does not appear on the list of Network video items. I noticed that some people had been having the same issue on the BDP-S370 so I tried one of there suggestions (reseting network information), however it still did not work. Any suggestions?

So you're saying HD works ok on the 370, but not the 380??

Any chance you could upload a video to youtube showing the difference so we can investigate further?

Thanks

Hello,

I have the same problem on my S380.  I'm on BT internet, using ethernet cable and always get at least 5.3 Mbs according to the S380.

iPlayer cuts out on HD after a few short seconds apart from when I skip ahead about a minute, which is fine when I want to skip the boring repetative waffle at the beginning of The Apprentice, but I actually want to see the beginning of most programs.

As for Demand5, the unskipable adverts work brilliantly, the actual TV shows..  not so good.

What is Sony doing to fix this or are they still trying to blame everything else?

I would like to add my voice to all of the other BDP-S380 owners complaining about the problem with HD BBC iPlayer. I am with O2 and using a wired connection to the router, and I get the exact same issue that others are reporting. The HD programme stops after about 20 - 25 seconds. To prove that there is nothing wrong with my connection I can take the cable out of the BDP-S380, insert it into the KDL-40EX503 which is above it on the rack, and watch HD BBC iPlayer programmes without any problem. I can even replace the BDP-S380 with the BDP-S370 from the other room, and also watch HD iPlayer content using exactly the same  connections.

Sony Support seem to be in deep denial over this issue.

Just wanted to add that I have this issue also.

Plays 20-25 secs of stream and then goes back program info page, have to skip forward a bit to let it carry on. Surely if it was a connection/ISP issue skipping forward would make no difference. In fact I recently rented The Expendables using Qriocity Video on Demand and think I had this issue, this was shortly after the VOD service came back online after the hacker attack. I thought it might have been a teething issue after the service coming back online as have used this before and not had a problem. It was an SD stream. I wonder if anyone else using this VOD service might have seen this.

ISP is Talktalk, connection speed atleast 10 Mbps, streams BBC HD on notebook and PC with no issue. TV is connected via ethernet cable.

Did a quick test with demand 5, did the same but only tried one stream, then also tried demand 5 on my sony TV and playback was fine, this was using the same ethernet cable to same router.

Will probably test a bit more with demand 5 and post my findings if I get a chance.

OK, tested a few more demand 5 streams on the blu ray player. It plays the advertisement no problem then gets to 10-30 seconds into stream and then stops and reloads the advert and plays this again before starting the stream again. Once the stream is restarted then usually plays ok. On two occasions though it skipped to the 2nd section of the program as if you'd watch the first section seen another add then got the next section.

On my KDL-32EX503 TV connected with the same network cable to the same router and network port on the router get no problem playing demand 5 at all.

I can confirm that if i fast forward 1 minute of an HD iPlayer program the rest streams perfectly. So there's clearly an issue with something happening in the first 25secs..buffering issues or something along those lines.

So please test this and stop talking bollocks..i've tested this at my parents house on their broadband connection...same thing..it's the player.

This is so repeatable as to be ridiculous. 25-26 seconds in, iPlayer HD goes back to the title page. Skip forward beyond 26 seconds and the programme plays to the end, though I am also getting frozen video on occasion, with the sound continuing as normal, which then sorts itself out. No drop in reported bandwidth throughout.

Well?  Has Sony acknowledged the problem is with the BDP yet?  What's being done about it?

@catmambo ... when I found I had this problem, the then-latest post in this forum from you stated: "Its a tough one as there are no known issues with iPlayer at the moment as far as we're aware, indeed, if they were widespread, there would be a lot more noise on the forums about it."

Well, since then there have been lots of people, like me, subscribing to the forum to register the same problem and to generate noise. Surely this is starting to demonstrate that it's widespread. With some of the specific posts about people testing different broadband connections, etc., the official remedial suggestions don't appear to address the root cause.

Are Sony now working on this?

Another disgruntled new user registering to record that his 380 does not play Iplayer/Demand 5 on HD.

Unit installed yesterday, networked today, wired throught the mains.

Initially was getting server error, ran update and that was corrected but still stops the HD after first few mins.
