3D Issue BDP-S790

We have just bought the above model and we are having an issue playing 3D.

We have an LG 42LW650T and we connect through a Onkyo TX-SR608 AV receiver.  When we try to play 3D, it tells us that either our TV or player are not 3D - Hogwash!  We can play the 3D movies without problem through our PS3, so why not our 3D Blu-Ray player?

Both the TV and Blu-ray player have the latest firmware updates.

Are you able to watch 3D movies if you connect your BDP-S790 via HDMI directly into your LG tv.?
