YouView not allowing catchup

Hello All,

Recently purchased a Sony TV. I need a smart TV as we have no aerial connection. However it appears a lot of the catch up apps are tied to youview which keeps trying to tune in channels. It won't let me use the apps unless I tune in channels which I am unable to do. I thought the whole point of a smart TV was that you could watch things without an arieal connection? Anyway to get around this?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Izzy,

Welcome to the Sony Community.

So I can try to help, can you let me know the full model of your TV?

Best wishes,

Sean Mc

Hi Sean,

Thanks for messaging back, I really appreciate it. I have an XF8796. Hope that helps!

Hi Izzy,

For Youview it's recommended here to use both an aerial and internet connection. You'll find more information about setting up Youview here and here.

Best wishes,

Ed

Hi Ed,

Unfortunately I do not have access to an aerial, is there a way to set up using only WiFi.

Many thanks,

Izzy

Hi Izzy,

In the link above it says that you need to set it up with an aerial and "thereafter if the aerial is removed you will only be able to watch On Demand and use the search features (Internet required)."

If your TV has not been set up initially with an aerial it sounds like you'll be unable to use these features.

Best wishes,

Ed

Hi Ed,

After reading the link above, I thought that would be the case but was still hopeful that there would be a way to by pass it. Its a shame that there's not. Thank you for replying though! I'm sure I can access catchup some other way, just a shame that I can't do it through the TV.

Thank you very much and all the best,

Izzy
