Sony A6000 not "connecting" to any device iPad or smartphone

Recently purchased a Sony a6000. 

and for the life of me I cannot get it to connect to my smartphone I have followed every step?

would you mind describing which steps you perform exactly and why you think it won't work?

With Apple products, you will have to manually go into your settings, then WiFi and search connect that way when the camera has the WiFi active (In the process of sending photos, for example).  Type in the security code, then go back to the "Playmemories Mobile" app, or otherwise known as "Imaging Edge Mobile",  The two should communicate fine after that.

If not, I'm stumped.
