Using HDD/DVD recorder with KD32W800 TV

Hi

I am trying to set up my new KD32W800 smart TV with a Sony RDR-HXD890 HDD/DVD recorder using HDMI cable. When the HDMI input is selected I can see the programmes already recorded but the program guide to set up new recordings is empty. Tried retuning recorder but it doesn't pick up any channels. Any idea what might be wrong?

Here’s the manual:-

Make sure you are using the Digital Aerial In/Outs, not the Analogue ones.

So connect to the sockets shown at 5, not at 1, on page 16.

How have you got the aerial cabling wired here?

You need the male/male aerial cable from the wall socket to go into the recorder first, and then use a male/female aerial cable to link it onward to the TV.

Yes. Aerial cable from wall to recorder, cable from recorder to TV and HDMI between recorder and TV. This is the same as with the previous TV and it worked fine. TV is getting channels.

If the TV gets the channels, then it proves that the aerial signal is passing into, and out of, the DVR OK. So this looks like a problem with the DVR.

Best make doubly sure you are tuning it correctly, to the digital signals, before going any further.

But a power cycle wouldn’t hurt, and maybe a reset if the DVR has a gentle enough one.
