Motionflow settings for Sony KD43XE8004BU

I've recently purchased the above TV and am mostly very happy with the picture quality.

However, I'm a little unsure when it comes to the Motionflow settings.

When I open the Motionflow link, I have four choices - off, smooth, standard, and custom.  The custom mode allows for separate adjustment of smoothness and clearness controls. Also in Motionflow settings a separate control is available for Film Mode - on or auto.

Having had the TV for a few weeks I'm still unsure which settings I favour. Having read up a little I'm aware of things like "judder" and "soap opera effect", although I'm not entirely sure if and when they're occurring, although now and then I notice what I think is a lack of natural movement when viewing.

Sometimes I think you can have too much choice, and I would appreciate any advice about perhaps standardizing the Motionflow settings on my Sony TV. I understand this may not be possible, as watching things like fast moving sport or movies may call for different settings, but perhaps suggestions by members may help me in arriving at a workable solution I am happy with.

By the way, I will not be playing games on my TV.

Hi There,

When it comes to Motionflow (or any other picture setting), it all depends on how you like to see the objects move on the screen but there are a couple of points I can make:

1-When it comes to movies, they are mostly shot and edited to play at 24 frames per second, so when smoothed out too much, they may look kind of strange (some people actually prefer this which is why it's an option). So I'd recommend lowering the effect on this type of content.

2-The best kind of media to take advantage of Motionflow is definitely sports, so you can enable a more prominent level of enhanced motion and you'll find it very enjoyable (Most users do).

3-Remember that there isn't a right or wrong answer and that this is purely subjective so what looks good to you may not appeal to me.
