KD-55X9005C - keeps freezing and becomes unresponsive

My new KD-55X9005C keeps locking up and is not responsive to any input from the remote control or the TV buttons. This can occur from anything from once a week to two or three times a day.

Sometimes it can happen shortly  after switching on (from standby) or after a number of hours of viewing.

The TV will display a picture and have sound but no commands from either of the remotes or the controls on the TV will work. (Even the on/off button)
The only solution we have found is to unplug the TV from the power supply and do a full reboot.
Ok, this does resolve the problem but surely it shoud not be necessary so frequently?

All firmware / software is up to date.

Come on Sony, for a TV costing just short of £2k I would expect it to be 110% in terms of operation

My Version is 5.1.1 LMY48E.S265 3.533, is this the "Marshmallow" update?

Meanwhile i had no issues for the last couple days, hopefully it stays that way

Re: Tv software update icon appeared

Marshmallow refers to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Marshmallow

The version is 6.0.1

I hesitated but knowning what I know now, I would not hesitate again. However, I still have the blinky app telling me to upgrade!

  • This is what I have to do

I have a 55 kd  sony but different model. It's about 5 years old and I've been having this problem for about a year.2 /3 times a day on average. So it's not just up to date sony that's having the problem.

Same here. Becoming worse by the day & I’ve only had it 4 months. Can’t seem to get in touch with Sony. Have you found a solution???

My TV is now over 5 years old. I have not had this problem in over 4 years. I did register the product with Sony to ensure I was notified of any improvements to the inbuilt software operating system. Using the network feature, I have downloaded and updated the software many times when notified by Sony to do so. I can only assume by following this guidance that the problems have been resolved by Sony through these updates. I had no luck contacting Sony either directly.
The only thing about the TV that continues to niggle me is the inbuilt satellite TV programme guide. To ensure it is updated, you have to sit on the individual channel an wait for the single channel to be updated. On the digital terrestrial programme guide it updates all channels immediately. I gather in the USA the satellite programme guide works just like the terrestrial one, instant.

Hi there everyone,

I think the best way to treat the TV is just like any Android device. Clear background data by going to Settings- Storage and reset - Internal shared storage - Cache - Clear. I found that to do wonders along with a simple power cycle (unplugging the TV for a minute or so).
