Hi,
My setup is:
Sony XBR55-X850D
DirecTV Ready (via RVU - 4kGenie) app on the TV
Denon AVR-2313ci (connected to HDMI 1arc )
Problem is no matter what settings I change, I can't use any of the surround processing on my AVR. The TV overrides the AVR and sets it to either Dolby5.1 or stereo. My preferred processing is Audessy DTS:X (7.1.2 with wide speakers).
The DirecTV app menu for sound directs you to the TV settings, which do not appear to allow the AVR to dictate the surround processing.
Am I missing something?
Part 2: If I was using a "set top box" from DirecTV, would I have the same issues with this android TV?
Thanks for any insights,
M.J.
Hi there,
Have you updated all the products in question to the latest firmware?
Best wishes,

Hi M.J.,
Welcome to the UK Sony Community! Sorry for the slight delay in response to your post. I had to investigate your products/setup since these are specific to the North American region.
Your TV is capable of receiving through its HDMI inputs LPCM, Dolby Digital and DTS audio formats. Now what does that mean for you? That if you choose to have an external DIRECTV STB such as the "DIRECTV 4K Genie Mini" and connect that to your TV through HDMI, your TV will pass-through the DTS signal through ARC to your receiver. Provided that:
The current setup you have, using the built-in "DIRECTV 4K Ready" app does not support the output of DTS audio tracks from the TV through HDMI/ARC. It only can either output in multichannel LPCM or Dolby Digital formats, depending on the settings you have chosen under Home > Settings > Sound > Digital audio out > [Auto 1/Auto 2/PCM]. DTS output through HDMI/ARC is only supported by the built-in Sony Video player to playback either from a DLNA source device or attached USB device.
Hope that answers your question. If not, let me know what else you would like to know.
Cheers,
Dutchice
Thanks for the response, very clear and helpful.
As suspected, the DirecTV Android app is the limiting factor.
To use DTS I'll have to add either a Genie or STB to make it work 😞
I additionally suggest you make absolutely sure through either DIRECTV support or user forums, whether there are any programmes being broadcasted with native DTS audio tracks. Since that is quite rare for European broadcasters, but I am not that very sure about the North American region.
