NEX-5 - using non-Sony lenses.

Odd Q here: Since non-Sony lenses can only be focussed by their focus rings, when the NEX-5 is in 'M' mode does the automatic 'focussing' (holding the shutter release half-way) have any effect whatever on the focus? Michael.G

Hello @Westwick29,

does the focusing work in other modes? If not check whether the AF/MF switch is set to AF on the Lens AND on the camera.

Hello Nic

Thanks for your reply. The difficulty I am having, using non-Sony lenses is due to the poor quality of most L39-NEX

adaptors. The designers didn't take into consideration the requirement of extra room to operate the focus ring actuating plunger on Leitz Elmar f=3,5cm 1:3,5  Leitz Elmar f=5cm 1:3.5, or National Optical Co. 2 inch f/2. Though these adaptors are OK for the Leitz Elmar f=9cm and the Leitz Hektor f=13.5cm 1:45 for their focus rings are further up the barrel and do not have that plunger mechanism.

I did originally have a Sony E PZ 16-50mm f=3.5-5.6 OSS "pancake" lens but this is inappropriately constructed and one of the internal 'tags' on a black plastic ring inside the lens unit broke off thus rendering the lens useless. I was extremely careful with this lens - no knocks or drops in my care. Unless SONY make a more durable version of this lens using, say, metal for that ring, I certainly am not buying another 'pancake'. My experience of this problem led me to discover it to be a common one. Very disappointing! SONY - take note!!
