Where is the default auto camera mode?

I'm very confused by the mode button on the camera app and can't find an automatic mode.

I see these camera mode options:
- portrait selfie
- Google lens
- slow motion
- Panorama
- Creative
- AR
- Manual

Whenever I close and re-open the camera app, the mode it is set on the last one used.

At the moment I am having to take all photos on the Google Lens mode, because I just can't find the auto mode!  I suspect this means I'm not getting the best picture quality.

Press the X in the top left corner to come out of Google lens, this will take you back to auto

Hi @scoobie

As @Viridis said, the way to return to auto mode in the camera app is to tap the X-icon displayed in the top left corner. After returning to auto mode there will be a shortcut to the recently used mode just above the mode-icon in the bottom left corner.

I hope that helped! Slightly_smiling_Face

This is the solution, but it's not very intuitive! I spent a while working this out, as I suspect others have. Why not simply have Auto as one of the options?

Auto is the default option.

From any mode, pressing the X icon or back arrow icon will return you to default of "superior auto"Screenshot_20190611-095850.png

Having a shortcut for the LAST mode used, but not the mode you are currently in is counter intuitive.

That's what is confusing me here. You can't actually tell when you are in auto mode, because the only mode icon is for the last mode used !

But if the icon for last mode used is showing...

That means you're in auto currently.

I agree with scoobie. As a UX, it is confusing. We tend to like to activate the settings we want, rather than assume them as a default. It causes confusion, the current way. I get why it has been done that way, but it doesn't work well, in use.
