Important: EE network problem - please reply!

I've started this as a new thread so that people will see it and hopefully respond!

Please can I ask, if you have bought a new Xperia 1 in the UK and are successfully using it on the EE network, please can you reply to this thread to confirm?

It seems there is a serious problem affecting some (and perhaps all) Xperia1 users on EE, as described in the thread "Issue with network dropping"

I've only discovered the problem myself having read that thread (I'd been on WiFi all the time until then) but my phone has this problem: cannot surf for more than a few minutes before the network drops out.

As it stands, my phone is unusable on EE and I am trying to establish whether the problem affects all EE XP1 users or only a subset.

Does ANYONE have an XP1 on EE who does not have this network problem?

Thanks for your replies.

I've had the problem - I'm on EE, but got the phone through Carphone Warehouse, so the phone as supplied was vanilla & unmodified by EE.

I thought I had an answer (see the Network dropping thread) but my mobile network just dropped again - but the problem is less frequent.

I think it's already been established that the majority of the problems have been in the UK with vanilla phones connected to EE.

I would however suggest posting about the problem in the "Issue with Network Dropping" thread, as the most information about this problem is contained there

Thanks.  I started this thread specifically to seek confirmation for ANYONE who is using the XP1 on EE without problems.  If there is such a person out there, they may not read the other thread.

I am trying to understand whether there's just a few people like you and me affected, or whether this affects every single EE user in the UK (or every in single EE user on a CPW supplied phone).

Hi Chippy,

I have EE Direct device.  I don't have the no signal symbol or dropping as such.

Just poorer signal than my previous devices (pixel 2 XL) - so I can use my phone fine.  Just frustating I get like 1 bar in my house.

I have a similar issue with Xperia 1 and the EE network, however, I had similar with XZ Premium as well. It's not a regular thing though only in weak signal areas

I don't believe that signal strength is an issue with this phone. All ther examples below are on 4G:

On 2 bars in the middle of the night in our hotel bathroom in London, I got a download speed of 107mbs on Oopla's Speedtest app.

This morning, in my hotel bedroom, that has a slightly better mobile signal, the X1 showed 3 bars and got 93mbs - to be expected as more people would be using the EE network at this time.

I also have a Sony Z4 tablet with an EE data SIM in it - at the same time in my bedroom, it had 2 bars, and a download speed of 50mbs.

I think the X1 is reporting lower signal strength in bars, compared with other phones, for the same signal strength. The real test of the connection is the download speed, not the reported numbers of bars.

Of course, if the network connection drops, then that is another issue altogether...

(Although I have not noticed this problem at all with the data SIM in my Z4 tablet)

I have an Xperia 1 direct from EE, no problems at all.

Much better than the Pixel 2XL it replaced, stronger signal and WiFi calling works where the Pixel would work on neither WiFi calling or the EE network.
