Your model accepts one module at a time so in theory there shouldn’t be a problem. Maybe there is a conflict between the two modules?

As your model normally comes with two 256 MB modules fitted I assume that you have discarded one of the originals which would indicate that the new module is being recognized but not the remaining existing one

Try removing the 512 MB chip and check that the system recognizes the original 256 MB module. Also try swapping the chips around in the slots, ie remove the original chip and replace it with the 512 MB – test that it is recognized and the add the original 256 MB chip.

Are you sure that both modules are of the same type eg DDR PC2700?
