Hey,

Does anyone know how to get a com port on the AR11B ??

Just I have had to buy a usb2serial but it wont work correctly. The laptop finds the hardware and installs the drivers, but when I connect anything to the adapter it just doesnt work with it.

Any help would be grateful.

Hi highroyds and welcome to ClubVAIO.

What COM Port has your Vaio allocated? Some hardware can only scan for COM1 to COM4 and I expect the Vaio has allocated a higher number and reserved 1 - 4 for Windows.

With the USB attached:-
Start>Right-Click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Ports (COM & LPT)
What COM Port is allocated? If it is higher then COM4 try changing it to COM4 (as long as it is not in use).
Right-click on the device>Properties>Settings>Advanced
and from the drop-down box choose COM4 if it is not shows as in use.

EDIT: I have a 2 Serial port PCMCIA card which my Vaio allocated COM4 & COM5. Lots of basic kit like my weatherstation will only recognise COM4.
