BOOT problem

after my last windows update, windows would not boot. after the vaio logo screen in dos mode it would request the bios master password.. when entered it would go directly to recovery process..even after recovering it continues to do the same.
however if I press F12 during the boot process it bypasses the password screen and starts to boot windows as normal.

how can i recitify this. I am unable to go into the cmos settings. I think a bios update might be needed.

I have a VGN A317m had for over 18months and have not changed any hardware.

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

If nothing else works, you could try finding the BIOS CMOS on your motherboard. Somewhere close to that there should be a jumper to clear the CMOS. Just switch the jumper for about 10 seconds and put it back. If there's no feature to reset the CMOS, you can also look for the little battery that powers the CMOS, and remove that for a few minutes.

That should put all the BIOS settings back to default.
In case you knew this, sorry for assuming you didn't.

pressing F2 does not get me into the cmos settings. It reports an error and then requests the cmos password ( which I thankfully know) after entering it the system directly goes into recovery setup.

pressing F2 or escape dont work. pressing F or F8 or F12 does somehow bypass the password and load normally into windows.

I'm not to keen to play with the hardware to reset. is there any other way of doing it

thanks
