My VAIO turns off randomly - how do I fix it?

A few months back, my VAIO started to randomly turn off without me wanting it to. Since then I have been using my friend's computer. I want to start using my own VAIO, which has been sitting on my desk without me using it. How do I fix it, do I need professional help? Please answer A.S.A.P. If there is a way I can fix it at home, please tell me! Thank you!

Hi ClaudiaHawkins,

Unexpected shutdowns can be caused by overheating. Was there any indication that this was the case - e.g. fan noise.

Assuming the computer will stay on long enough to do this, download a free utility such as PC-Wizard and let us know temperatures recorded both at idle and under load.
