Any compatible motherboard will fit. I purchased an Asus P4-800 SE for my P4 3.2 RZ502 when it died.

Be aware though that if you have internal card readers etc they won't have corresponding connections on a non Sony Mobo.

I ended up getting a new case and power supply too,

Finally your restore discs won't work any more and you will have to phone Microsoft to reactivate XP, after your Mobo upgrade.
I now rely on my second hard disk and Norton Ghost for backups.

So long as the system DOES boot properly and start Windows or another operating system, all that initial beep means is the POST (Power On Self Test) portion of the system BIOS running the computer completed all tests successfully.

So in non-gobbledegook this time = one beep at startup + successful operating system boot = Computer OK. lol

(And they said I was bad at maths too! The damn CHEEK lol )
