Every once in while someone forgets the password or the device cannot be restarted otherwise.

The only solution left is a Software repair.

If you did not set backup settings before you will lose a lot of data.

To prepare yourself for the worst scenario by setting up your device for automatic backup.

Swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger twice or with 2 fingers once
Tap on the cogwheel and you're in settings
Scroll to System -> Backup and switch on <Backup to Google drive> and <Google photos> -> Backup & sync. (Do not forget to read the Back up & sync help by tapping the ? in the top right corner of the screen)

That is all !

Backups will be almost complete.

Only chat apps need further attention.

From within WhatsApp, Signal etc. you have to setup regular backups as well. Google backup does not handle that.

Another very important thing is that you have written down your Google login somewhere or else you cannot restore your device.

To restore after reset or software repair you just have to log in into your device with your Google credentials. The rest is automagic.
