Yes I have heard the negatives and possibility of hardware deficiencies but also read of a person that hacked an earlier XG9505 firmware to unlock VRR etc. This was not possible after a subsequent firmware update.

So on the assumption the XG9505 and XH9505 are capable of HDMI 2.1 is it going to be unlocked any time soon?

Wrong assumption unfortunately. The HDMI 2.1 chipset is not present on those TV

a real shame as hdmi 2.1 addition would make this an almost perfect tv in my opinion.

Hi Harvee, the XG9505 was never one of the HDMI 2.1 TVs, and I highly doubt that there's anything like (Hacking a TV to support HDMI 2.1)! Anyway, Sony has a variety of TVs that supports this functions:
