Where's my SSD?!

Hi all,

I just bought myself a SVT1312B4E laptop from my local Currys store. It was advertised as having a 32Gb SSD but I cannot seem to 'see' it in explorer. The 500Gb regular drive is there, complete with a Windows folder but no SSD. Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

As the specifications for this model state 500GB hard drive plus (only) 32GB SSD I assume that this is a Hybrid drive – i.e. a single physical drive that incorporates SSD memory. If so the SSD is used for caching to speed loading of files and data and not storage as such.

I don’t have any firsthand knowledge but suspect that the 32GB SSD will not show in Explorer as it will not have a drive letter assigned. It may possibly be shown in ‘Disk Management’ (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management) but not necessarily.
