Upgrading unsupported VAIO to Windows 8

So i have a vpcl11m1e which has no official upgrade to Windows 8. I couldn't resist putting it on the huge touchscreen and so far after some geat advice from this forum I downloaded the touchscreen driver from another model and it worked perfectly.

There are a few things left that are not optimal (if I cannot fix them I am happy to leave it as it is), the dispaly driver os the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' and no matter what I try I cannot get it to recognise that ot is an Nvidia chip. Even the driver installer from Nvidia won't detect it.

So does anyone have any advice?

Hi demcnal.

Have you tried installing the Windows 8 nVidia graphics driver from the VPCL21M1E?

I know you have a different nVidia graphics adapter but it is worth a try: -

If it won't install, you may have to try and install a driver by modifying the installer .INF file.  Have a look at this website: -

Read the 'Quickstart Guide' at the bottom of the right-hand column.

What can I say, you have done it again. I now have full 1080p resolution. I had to use the external site you suggested as I needed to use the mofified inf file to allow for the install.

If anyone else is going to try this you will have to restart your Windows 8 machine in maintenance mode so as you can disable enforcing of the signed driver mode.
