Nvidia G84m/G86m faulty chip happen to Vaio??

I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly :slight_frown: :smileysad:. What's the sony's response?

This is just awful, more and more cases appear and still nothing from sony. At least an acknoledgement would be nice..
One question concerning those with gpu's still working, which power-scheme would be the best to use? balanced or power-saving?

Well, the problem is heat cycles - not heat, not cold alone.

i.e. you want to kee your temperature during usage as constant as possible.

That's the best advice could give you - from reading about the issue.

I suppose if you "game" it'll also fail faster than without.

Ah that makes sense, thank you. Im on my second gpu/motherboard on my vaio now and dont want this one to give in too soon. Got mine replace because of the good consumer laws in sweden. Think we have three years factory warrant on all electronic products if it's not obvious that you caused the problem..

Hi again. I have emailed Sony about this problem and told them that there are many people with VAIO's having this problem.

I have so far received no reply.....

Can I encourage eveyone who has had this problem to post their case ref. number
and Laptop serial number on this forum. I will then write to them listing as many instances of this problem as I can find.

Sony must be made to recognise this issue and do something about it.
Even if your laptop has been repaied under warranty it will just break again in 12 months so send in your case number and we can get something done. If I still receive no response I can use the list of case numbers to go to the computer press.

Hi all. I've been in touch with Sony about this issue again.

Unfortunately the official stance is still that that the GPU problem exists but does not effect VAIO laptops.

Therefore I'm going to need more case numbers in order to demonstrate that it does.

Please post if you have experienced this failure.

Does anyone know of any other forums for this in other than this one at norebookreview.com?

I'll be posting on norebookreview soon to gather additional case numbers.

Thanks.

Just in case anyone's interested, there's an online petition to try and get a proper response from Sony here:
