Geoforce GT Graphics Adapter, Updates to Driver?

Hello All,

I have a VIAO VPCF11S1E laptop running an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics adapter.

My system reports that the driver for this adapter, dating back to 2010, is up-to-date. The device manager does an internet check and comes back with a thumbs up. Not so, reports the NVIDIA website which features a more recent version. Other software like Thunderbird suspends some features because the graphics card is out of date.

Is there a reason why VAIO is not updating the driver for this graphics adapter?

Many thanks,

Hi trueblood,

The most recent graphics driver released by Sony for your model is 8.16.11.8867 and is dated 12/03/10.

Sony generally doesn’t release updated OEM drivers unless there is a general issue – gaming and third party software doesn’t seem to be a consideration.

If you require a more recent driver that has been released by nVidia you will need to resort to a modified INF file in order for the OEM hardware to be recognised and allow the driver to install.

Have a look at the following link for more detail on the procedure – make sure to read the Quick Start Guide towards the bottom of the page.

The required search terms (PCI\VEN10DE&DEV...) can be found by opening Device Manager > Display Adaptors > right click NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and select Properties > Details tab > from drop down menu select Hardware Ids.

Certified drivers are a safer option but this is of course entirely at your own risk.
