Sony HD TV - no sound from speaker when using apps

I am new here, not sure where to post this or the ettiquette here. Sorry if I get it wrong.

This week, I have bought a Sony KDL-32WD754BU TV for use in a bedroom. It is hooked up to a Sky Box and a Sony SRS-ZR5 speaker which I have had for some time. The speaker uses the HDMI 1 (ARC) socket in the TV and is ARC compatible. The Sky Box uses HDMI 2. Using options, the sound is set to the speaker.

Mostly, all is good. Using Sky, the sound comes from the speaker (which is great BTW and much superior to the TV sound). The speaker also produces the sound properly if playing music or videos either from my network or from a USB device pluuge dinto the Tv or into the speaker.  (I have no aerial access in this room.)

The probelm is the Apps. If I try BBC News, Sport or iPlayer or Demand 5 I can get no sound through the speaker. I have to change to TV speaker to get sound. However, You Tube does work ok, the sound does come through the speaker. (I have not tried the other Apps as yet).

Does anyone have any clue as to why I have this problem with the apps. Is it normal - to be expected - or am I doing something wrong?

the switch off (overnight) has worked. I have also switched back to my Humax box to make recording far easier.

Thank you for the advice on how to fix the problem of no sound with apps. I followed the guidance Settings-> Device Preferences-> About-> Restart and I now have sound with all apps.

If the issue happens again, clear the cached data (Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then restart the same way again, seems from other threads that it's a software glitch or too much cache.

I bought a Sony XBR65A9G last August. Initially I had problems with the TV switching to Demo mode and losing all picture setting when switching between different HDMI inputs.

However, that latest TV firmware update seems to have fixed that but has introduced the problem discussed here. I have tried the Restart procedure as well as the Clearing the Cached Data but the problem persists—the TV won't play sound through my Samsung HW-Q90R Soundbar when I use the Netflix or Amazon Prime apps. I even tried forcing the apps to shutdown, to no effect.

If I choose the soundbar for output it will play for about 10 seconds or so then I have to switch back to TV speakers.

If I play the apps via my Apple TV 4k everything is ok. Kinda makes me regret switching to Sony from Samsung for the TV.

I have exactly the same problem. No sound from any apps from my Bose 500 soundbar. Soundbar works fine through hdmi1 (sky q) and hdmi2 (fire tv). Soundbar is through the hdmi eArc port. Whenever I switch to any inbuilt apps I only get silence. I tried the above mentioned reset fix which worked for about 10 seconds, then crackled, hissed and went silent again.

Are you referring to clearing the cached data or just the reset? Does this happen on the latest software version for you as well?

Hi, Yes I have the latest update. I cleared the cache and did the reset. I tried this a couple of times without success. The following day, all was working as it should be. I wonder if it needed a longer power down than the reset allowed? Anyway, happy bunny now. Thanks for the help.
