Sony HD TV - no sound from speaker when using apps

I am new here, not sure where to post this or the ettiquette here. Sorry if I get it wrong.

This week, I have bought a Sony KDL-32WD754BU TV for use in a bedroom. It is hooked up to a Sky Box and a Sony SRS-ZR5 speaker which I have had for some time. The speaker uses the HDMI 1 (ARC) socket in the TV and is ARC compatible. The Sky Box uses HDMI 2. Using options, the sound is set to the speaker.

Mostly, all is good. Using Sky, the sound comes from the speaker (which is great BTW and much superior to the TV sound). The speaker also produces the sound properly if playing music or videos either from my network or from a USB device pluuge dinto the Tv or into the speaker.  (I have no aerial access in this room.)

The probelm is the Apps. If I try BBC News, Sport or iPlayer or Demand 5 I can get no sound through the speaker. I have to change to TV speaker to get sound. However, You Tube does work ok, the sound does come through the speaker. (I have not tried the other Apps as yet).

Does anyone have any clue as to why I have this problem with the apps. Is it normal - to be expected - or am I doing something wrong?

Hi anacosta01,

 

I've searched everywhere on the Sony UK website, but I couldn't find this model. I believe the XBR series is for the US models not the UK, not sure if it'll be the same firmware and settings in the UK. I'd recommend getting in touch with Sony Community USA.

Hi wondered if you ever got anywhere with this. I have had these srszr5 and the same issues for a few years and still do. 

as far as i can tell after reading reams of text on this it is the software of the tv or the speakers that cant output any 5.1 out of arc or from arc either way this looks to be a software issue of sony they have ignored. Or been unable to correct to the point of ditching the multiroom product lines.  These speakers are fairly decent for the bucks but software functionality could not back up the idea. 

i continue to get no sound out these speakers when the source is 5.1 and sony tv cant deal with it to output through ARC.

Hey i have same issues- i just bought the tv a few months ago - getting no sound from my tv apps from my surround sound receiver - but i have no issues while using my PS4 or Amazon Tv???  i don't get it.  first smart TV from Sony - probably my last!!

 

Did you get resolution???

I am having a problem with sound also , we was watching a program through Disney  app and lost sound in tv speakers , when I go to spectrum tv ( cable ) tv speakers work great , but any streaming apps they don't work .

ISSUE FIX: So after a few hours of troubleshooting both my speakers my apps and my TV, I determined it was my TV. Go to Settings—>Device Preferences—>About—>Restart. This fixed the sounds issue for all my apps that had sound issues(Hulu, YouTube, TV streaming Device)on my TV(Bravia 4K UR3).

I also found that I had no sound on the apps on my 2 month old KD-55XH9505 although Netflix worked ok. The reset viaGo to Settings—>Device Preferences—>About—>Restart. also worked for me. I think the issue may have occurred after I did s Sony update that was brought to my attention via notifications, I can not say  definitely as I did not notice the audio issue immediately only when I went to use iPlayer.Many thanks

Same here. Brand new TV and can only use the poor in built speakers. Really angry and frustrated. It’ll be sent back to the store if it doesn’t resolve soon.
