Apps missing or not working

Hi,

I've a Sony TV (Bravia KD-55X8505B ; fw PKG3.004EUA) since 2 years and I'm very happy about this product. However, since 2 weeks, apps are not working (not able to laucnh it) and if I try to install a new one, the list of apps is empty.

What I did until today:

- Update the TV fw but seems I have the latest one

- Check internet connection (using wifi) and all is good (recheck wifi password and IP and test the connection through network settings)

- Check the internet/wifi router details and just to make sure I put the IP address of the TV on the DMZ

Still not working... Any advise?

Thanks,

V.

Hi

I have a Sony Bravia 32WE613. Yesterday I installed a BT Hub6, replacing a BT Hub5. i have replaced a like for like BT Hub5 before with no problems but now none of my Apps for BBC, ITV and All4 work. I haven't tried the others yet. I can get into them but no programme will launch. I've set up the new Hub on the TV and it says it's working. I've seen advice about going to GooglePlay and updating the Apps but the Apps came with the TV and there is no GooglePlay app. Any advice greatly received! Thanks

hi, have you tried setting Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4. You can change these on your tv on the network settings page.

I have reset tv to factory setting and refreshed internet connection etc. I have also changed DNS etc. But I still only get the same 24 useless apps. No BBC, ITV or NowTV. What else can I do?

@spookydownunder what TV model do you have and what software version is it currently on?

John,

It is KDL-32W705B running PKG3.006EUS.

Unfortunately I got onto Sony directly through one of the links on this post, and they have confirmed that after the layest software update most of the apps, or at lease BBCiplayer, ITV hub and NOWtv, have been removed, with no way to replace.

If you have any further information or suggestion, I would love to hear them, otherwise I think I just have to accept that they are gone.

The only apps on the tv now are shown on the attached.IMG-3991.jpg

Unfortunately, they are gone most likely due to the TV being an older model and the service providers keep dropping older models in favor of newer ones.

That said, there are some alternative ways to get those apps, and Sony actually has a link collecting some of them which you can check out here.

Hope this helps!

I find it unbelievable that that article doesn’t mention streaming sticks/devices such as Amazon Fire and Roku Express, etc.

Those, for a very small expenditure, restore and improve on the app capabilities of these devices in the most user- and family- friendly way, but simply plugging in to an HDMI port. And usually, you can power them from a USB port on the TV, making them completely self-contained.
